How does CBD help with stress and anxiety?

When going through stressful periods, we all have our ways of coping. Whether it’s having a nice pamper evening, hitting the gym or reaching for a glass of wine. For many, CBD has become an increasingly popular aid for getting through tough times, with its ability to calm the mind and body, and help you sleep better.

With all that’s going on in the world right now, we thought we’d highlight the calming and wellness benefits that CBD has to help you stay healthy in both mind and body during this time of uncertainty.

Better sleep equals better mind

When times get tough, one of the first things that can be hindered is our sleep. For some, dropping off feels impossible with so much on your mind, while for others, they are struggling to fall into a deep sleep (REM) and aren’t getting the quality of sleep they need.

CBD is great for a range of sleep complaints, because it not only makes you sleepy, it can also help you stay asleep. Users have also experienced improvements in the quality of their sleep after using CBD, allowing them to wake up feeling refreshed, revitalised and in a much better place to deal with any issues during the day.

Keep calm and carry on

One of the most common reasons why people make CBD a part of their daily routine is to help alleviate anxiety and calm the mind. When faced with periods of uncertainty, for many, their anxiety skyrockets. Although there may not be an answer right now or a solution to hold on to, CBD can help reduce symptoms associated with anxiety and help your mind seek rest.

Here’s what Mona from Monalogue said about her experience of using CBD for anxiety.

“Before I began anxiety treatment with CBD oil, I struggled with moderate to extreme anxiety and had done for as long as I can remember. I’m a highly sensitive and introverted person before feeling anxious...The anxiety was predominantly social, but I would sometimes wake up in tears of worry for no obvious reason.”

Mona then goes on to explain how, for the first time for as long as she can remember, she felt some relief from her anxiety after making CBD a part of her daily routine.

“I took a couple of drops under my tongue, let them sit there for a minute, and then gulped them away. Within half an hour, I felt a wave of tiredness, so I went to sit in the garden. Then the most amazing thing happened. For the first time in my life, the ten conversations running on loop in my mind just stopped. I decided to listen to some music, and I was really able to listen and focus. I stopped the music. I was able to think about one thing at a time, and those thoughts weren’t worries. They were neutral or happy...“A month later, the story is pretty much the same. I hadn’t had a single panic attack. After three months, I felt so well that I began missing doses unintentionally.”

A mood booster when you need it most

Although CBD can help relieve anxiety symptoms, what about helping our mood? This is an area that is still being researched, however, it’s thought that CBD has uplifting properties.

According to Healthline, “Experts believe that CBD’s potential benefits for depression are related to its positive effect on serotonin receptors in the brain.

“CBD doesn’t necessarily boost serotonin levels, but it may affect how your brain’s chemical receptors respond to the serotonin that’s already in your system.

“A recent 2018 review of existing studies concluded that CBD has anti-stress effects, which may reduce depression related to stress.”

Breaking the stress cycle

When we’re dealing with tough situations, for a lot of people, the stress can negatively impact chronic illnesses. From IBS flare-ups to increased chronic pain, stress can play havoc with our bodies and make the situation worse, creating a negative cycle that can start to affect our mental health.

With its natural anti-inflammatory properties, CBD is great for keeping chronic illnesses in check and allowing us to deal with difficult situations without the addition of a flare-up. It also aids digestion, helping to deal with bloating and other stress-inducing stomach issues.

“The cannabinoid system is key to helping the body keep itself in balance,” says an article by Psychology Today. “This system ensures our stomach and intestines run well, keeps inflammation down, and modulates pain while helping to maintain our mood in a good place.”
